Our unconscious mind is responsible for 95% of our daily life. It controls our emotions, habits, personality, values and beliefs as well as our cognitive biases.
And we think we know what’s going on!
So much of what we think and do is happening at a level that we are unaware of. We often think we don’t care about something or have something under control but in reality, we are being triggered, influenced and running on auto pilot.
Crazy hey?
So what do we do?
How can we access something hidden beneath us?
We need to work on becoming more attune with our inner voice and our feelings. The following practices will help but it will take time to develop. So be patient.
Meditation
Meditation helps us become more aware of our thoughts. As we sit and try not to think all our thoughts come to annoy us. But if you are looking to see what you are thinking and feeling they are no longer annoyances preventing you from attaining a still mind. Instead they are the insights into what you are thinking. The longer you still and practice the deeper you can go and you will be surprised what is revealed.
Make an intention when you sit that you will become more aware of your thoughts and emotions.
Journaling
A good way to get in contact with your subconscious is through journaling and reflecting on your day. It doesn’t have to take long just a few minutes at the end of the day to reflect and gather your thoughts and ask yourself how you’re feeling.
You might want to do a short meditation to become more conscious then journal. They work really well together.
Pay attention to your dreams
Your dreams give you direct messages from your subconscious. They are not always easy to interpret but they are sending you messages. What we need to do is learn to understand them.
You can trying using dream books. They interpret symbology and things that but I prefer to use my intuition. I think about what’s going on with me and in my life and feel into what I’m trying to tell myself.
Connect to your inner child
And don’t forget your inner child. They know what’s going on. They are on the inside. They hear every thought and feel every emotion. And unlike the big version of ourselves, they don’t get distracted or disconnected. They are totally aware.
Connect with them and you will learn so much. It’s amazing how much insight you can gain once you have open communication wth this part of self.

The above practices will help you get a better understanding of what’s going on deep within your consciousness. Because when you know what your biases are and your ingrained habits you have a better understanding of your emotions and from there you have something to work with.
